The Beatles Tapes -
WINGS WILD WONDERS
WINGS WILD WONDERS
WINGS WILD WONDERS is an audio tape
that circulated in 1987. Beatleg expert Belmo first reviewed the tape in his newsletter BELMOS BEATLEG NEWS. Later, author L.R.E. King commented on it in his book FIXING A HOLE...
BELMOS BEATLEG NEWS, January 1988:
This is a rare find of Wings outtakes. Available only on tape (at this time). These will most certainly make it onto vinyl in the near future. I want to thank my friend who sent me this great tape.
Now, for the songs:
SIGNS OF LOVE (78):
This song sounds a bit like COMING UP. Its an instrumental with some great guitar work. Also contains some nice jazzy piano playing by Paul (I assume)
PLEASE COME HOME (77):
Opens with some nice bass playing by Paul. Then Paul sings about love as only he can. It is not a strong song lyrically, but is still quite listenable. The sax solo in the middle eight is well done.
THE BEST IS YET TO COME (75):
The sound quality on this song is poor, but what I could make out was a danceable tune. Linda does background vocals.
GO FOR THE BEER (78):
This is a real rocker! Why hasnt this one been released? Some hot guitar playing on this one.
LOOKING INTO LOVE (74):
Poor quality again. This one is as close to country as you can get. Paul must like to pretend hes Willie Nelson. This one should stay in the can.
SHAKE UP YOUR ENGINES (74):
Another lost love song. This one is highlighted by Paul on piano and a nice piece of guitar playing. It sounds just like him.
NEED A GUARANTEE OF LOVE (If Its Me Youre Thinking of) (74):
Not a bad song, not exceptionally great either. The words lack any substance and the tune is kind of boring.
RUNAWAY TEENAGER (79):
Paul puts some synthesizer in this instrumental which lasts about 90 seconds. Its an ok tune, but nothing memorable.
JIMMY TAKES A RIDE (78):
Poor sound but through the noise there can be heard a nice rock and roll song. With some work this could be a good song.
RELAX IN BED (78):
Nice sound on this one. Theres a whispered intro followed by some excellent singing and playing by Paul. Of all the songs on this tape, this is my favorite. Too bad its cut off at the end.
NOTE:
There is no way to be certain that these songs are even remotely connected with Paul or Wings. I think it sounds like Wings, but it is possible its just another clever imitation. Any opinions from those who have heard the tape?
FIXING A HOLE by L.R.E. King 1989:
Some parts sound a little like Paul and co., but the sound quality is abominable and seems to be deliberately distorted, which is certainly a reason to be suspicious. Extremely dubious.
